Co-Creating Community Solutions: Knowledge Mobilization on Fall Prevention
Project: Fear of Falling, March 2022 ~
On July 29, 2025, the HELP Lab
hosted an interactive knowledge mobilization event titled “Coping with
Concern About Falling,” held at the City of London Public Library. The
event brought together older adults, researchers, and community members for a
collaborative morning of dialogue and co-design.
Following opening remarks by Dr.
Kamila Kolpashnikova, the PhD student Valeria Yakushko shared preliminary findings
from the ongoing research on fall-related concerns among older adults. The
presentation sparked insightful questions and reflections, paving the way for
small-group workshops.
Facilitated by Dr. Merita Limani,
participants engaged in two co-design exercises. The first focused on
individual coping strategies—what older adults are already doing to manage
concerns about falling. The second explored community-based solutions, such as
improving home design, access to assistive technologies, and local support
networks.
The discussions were rich and
constructive, with participants brainstorming practical ideas, sharing lived
experiences, and identifying ways to make communities more age-friendly. The
feedback and strategies generated will directly inform the next stages of the
HELP Lab’s fall-prevention research.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed to this meaningful exchange!
